Who can publish my novel on a low budget?

Joseph H asked:

I’ve been writing a fictional fantasy adventure for well over a year and I’m almost finished. I’m looking for a publisher who can help me with editing, copyrights, and hopefully publication on a modest budget. The story is good, more than 30 chapters, and I’m leaving the end open for sequels I’m also projecting (possibly five or more). I’m open to financing ideas and other suggestions.

Well, if a publisher is interested in you and likes your story, then they will do all this for you, and pay you for it, so you won’t have to worry about the budget. You can find a list of publishers, and agents too, in the Writers and Artists Yearbook (available from Amazon and all good book shops).

There are options to self-publish of course. Try, as they have a good reputation, as far as I’m aware, but I don’t think they offer an editing service. There is a list of other self-publishing companies in the Writers and Artists Yearbook too.

Another place to consider, if you’re not already aware of it is sending your manuscript to the Arts Council funded “YouWriteOn.com”, who will publish the first 5,000 writers who contact them for Free – Fiction & Non-Fiction. See for details, closing date is 31st October, I believe.

    Good luck!

Real publisher and agents don’t charge you, but you have to sell them on the potential of your work.

The first step is to polish your book; get it as perfect as you can on your own. Then pick up a “Writers Market” or a “Jeff Herman’s Guide.” The second is preferable.

Those big books hold the information you need to approach a publisher or an agent. They list mailing address and gives the genre each one is looking for. They also explain how to approach them… with a query letter or with proposal (how to write those is explained in the book as well).

I would recommend that you send out multiple submission, since no matter how good your book is, you will get many rejections… since agents and publishers are very busy people and are not always open to taking on new projects.

Find additional help here for refining your work (sentence structure and proper English) Go to the research section and click on “Leap Down.” Look for “For Authors.”
